Hawthorn Courtyard

In designing a smaller shared garden space, we focused on creating intimate, private zones within the larger area to offer distinct breakaway spaces in the rear garden. To work with the existing facade and the overshadowing of tall boundary fences, we chose not to use dense hedging. Instead, we framed the paved areas with buffer garden beds, allowing climbers to grow and soften the backdrop over time. In doing so, it created more opportunity for layered planting and textural accents to breakthrough and form interesting shapes and hierachy in the plant palette.
